We Wear the Mask

Describe, in detail, for me an occaision when you witnessed someone behaving in a way that you knew was not genuine; they were wearing a “mask.”  Then, describe what it made you feel as you watched them act this way.

Explain an author’s purpose. What is it. Give an example from something you have recently read.

Sotomayor: What do you personally think and feel about Sonia Sotomayor’s appointment to the Supreme Court of America? Does it have any personal impact upon you? Why or Why not?

Your job now is to find housing for your family.  (With your partner) Read through the potential spots and find two ads that you find interesting enough to make an appointment to see.  In your response, tell exactly why you are interested in that apartment and tell the author what in his/her description attracted you.  Use quotes to support your assertion.

Education and Identity

You just finished reading Noguera’s article about race and academic performance.  Please respond by telling me what you found 1) interesting about the article 2) what new information you learned 3) whether or not you find his opinion credible (trustworthy).  Tell me why you feel the way you do.  Be sure to type in an email address and the security password so that you do not lose your work.  Copy your work before you send it. 

Christopher Columbus

Think about what you already knew and thought about Christopher Columbus. Does reading the chapter from Howard Zinn’s People’s History of the United States support what you already knew and thought or does it refute what you knew or thought?

Fragments

Write one example of a complete sentence. Then, change that sentence and make it a fragment. Tell me what part of that sentence you left out!
