In the essay, “Strawberry Fields”, Eric Schlosser writes about how most immigrant workers are being payed under low wage even though they are doing hard work compared to then other jobs in the US. He works his purpose to explain how this subject is very unacceptable in some cultures. He does this in a calm tone as he appeals through given examples that could help people better visualize what these migrant workers are going through and how they would need better pay for them and their families. He also achieves his purpose by delivering his message through very specific diction creating a vivid imagery.

In the article “Strawberry Fields,” Eric Schlosser argues the significance of the meticulous work and awful conditions that drain the immigrants who work in strawberry fields as a living. Schlosser begins his assertion with ground information that illustrates the austerities that encumber the migrant field workers. He continues with description of the extended hours with a meager wage and the ambivalent struggle of being employed the next day; the worries that burden any poor field worker. The tone Schlosser asserts in the article is sympathetic toward the field workers yet demands the fight for equality from its uninformed audience.

In Eric Schlosser’s, “Strawberry Fields,” he discusses the unfair conditions Mexican strawberry pickers face. The author makes us connect to the Mexican strawberry pickers by exposing the harsh conditions they work in. These workers work long hours under the blistering sun just to make minimum wage and in some cases they make less than 5 dollars an hour. The work they do is painstaking since they have to bend over to pick strawberries over and over which can cause joint pain if done multiple times a day for years on end. The author points out that the pay these workers get gives them the bare minimum in order to survive. Through this essay, the author tries to convince to the general strawberry eating population to become more aware of the people who grow and pick these fruits.

    Strawberry Fields

In Eric Schlosser’s article “Strawberry Fields” (1995), he describes in great detail the hardships migrant workers had to endure, especially in strawberry fields of California. He uses facts and statistics to show how workers are paid, their housing, and the work they are expected to do. He then discusses the impact migrant workers have on society by explaining they impose higher costs on the states if they get married or have kids. To conclude, since most migrant workers were immigrants, the President’s Commission on Migratory Labor suggested to impose harsh punishment on employers who used migrant workers, but the Congress did not listen and made it a crime to be an illegal immigrant yet it was fine to employ one. His purpose is to educate people about where and how the fruits they buy come from in order to expose the horrible working conditions of the strawberry pickers. He seems to have unaware citizens of California in mind because this is where most of the strawberry picking takes place and no one seems to take in consideration what the migrant workers have to do for such little pay.

This is well done. Upon close reading, I should conclude you will analyze how he relies on facts and statistics? If so, then bravo! If not, re-read your response. As well, take a look at that closed, complete verb phrase, “had to endure.” That form suggests it is not taking place anymore and no longer poses a threat to anyone. I might choose a progressive verb tense like, “have had to endure.” That makes it sound more like a past, present, and future problem–which it is.

Eric Schlosser’s, “Strawberry Fields”, the conditions of the immigrant worker are detailed for all to see. He appeals to our sense of emotion and tells of the hardships these immigrants face in the strawberry fields. He tells of the physical pain of laboring all day picking fruit, the long hours for little pay, and their poor living environments. The logos he uses also inform the people of the payments they give farmers due to all the immigrant workforce they have. It is a way to keep these people with low wages and make other farmers become in need of cheap labor to keep up.

In his article, “The strawberry Fields” Eric Schlosser emphasizes the continual alternation between emphemeral stability and prolonged instability that migrant workers in California face. Though his informative and concise language Eric Schroeder infoms those who have never had to experince field-life about the harshness of working in the fields, the minimal benefit, and the struggle of finding a job. He draws on actual accounts and experiences of migrant workers to show the contrast between how “migrant peasants” live-in respect toththe upper/middle classes. This evokes senses of pity and guilt in the reader which Schlosser exploits to raise the idea of better conditions and achieve social justice for the migrant workers in the strawberry fields.

In Eric Schlosser’s article “In the Strawberry Fields” (1995), he expresses his views on migrant farm workers. The author first communicates his outlook on the topic by presenting wages made by the workers; and to conclude he explains the farmers’ thoughts by giving cases of their actions. His purpose is to bring attention to the unfair working conditions of migrant workers. He seems to have the American citizen in mind because he wants to surface the issue of the migrant workers and the truth behind them.
