Then, finish working on your project.

Emily Dickinson

Think about the two Dickinson poems we read in class, “Because I could not stop for death” and “I felt a funeral in my brain.” Do not confuse or mix up the poems. Talk about one; and then, talk about the other. Discuss the connection between imagery and mood. What does one have to do with the other in these poems?

Once you finish, take some time to read one the other group’s comments.  After you read it, make a comment on that comment.  You can begin, “I agreee with ____________,/ or/ I agree with ___________ opinion about…”  Ok.  Get started and be sure not to use your last name when posting your work.

The Transcendentalists and the Romantic Period

Write down all the websites and sources you use today. Your task is to use complex and compound sentences to discuss what you know about the Transcendentalists movement. What did they believe about society? What did they believe about government? What did they believe about a citizen’s resposibility?

Feel free to “google” Emerson and Thoreau before you post your comment. Once you finish, google Walt Whitman and write a summary about him on a separate sheet of paper. Then, make a works cited page for the sources you use for your research. If you like, feel free to use the MLA guide on the “links” page of the class website. Remember: transitions, transitions, transitions; use them.

If you finish early, find Whitman’s poems “I Hear America Singing” and “Song of Myself” and read them for understanding.
