Now that you have picked teams and are ready to start researching…here are your categories by the way: a) immigration/amnesty vs. deportation, b) capital punishment, and c) abortion. In response to this post, write what you know about each topic before you begin your research. Divide your responses into a, b, and c. Then go back to your class web site and complete your research. You will find a great link on the class site called, “Young Debaters.” On that site, you can search your topic and read pro and con arguments as well as find good, credible sources.
Be sure to take copious (good) notes (Cornell notes are the best), and write down every source you use! You will need to refer to your notes when you debate. You have two days to finish your research. We will begin debating on Friday! Get to it.
Once you write and post your thesis paragraphs, search “Jonathan Edwards and Sermons” on the Internet. Look for as much information as you can. Synthesize what you find and write one organized statement about Edwards. Share what you find with your classmates here.
Take 10 minutes to talk with a partner about thesis statements and thesis paragraphs. Remember what they look like, and what each thesis statement and paragraph needs to contain.
Then, you and your partner write a thesis sentence and paragraph about The Great Debaters. Remember to give a strong opinion about the topic.
What did you think of the movie? Make a statement and complete a proofread thesis paragraph.
This is only a test.
